This is a process painting I made shortly after finding out about the sudden death of a beloved childhood friend. A singular white peony turned away from view, head dipping with the weight of grief. The creamy peony stands in a glass vase surrounded by bright, stunning, orange slices and a whole orange - a bold reminder that even in the face of darkness beauty is present and can be a bridge to hope and the understanding that somehow the future is still bright.
